Recording - So It Begins

A wild Chris appeared at my house today, fully armed with a bass and badass skills. So we put them to use and lay down the first tracks for our album: most of the bass parts for the first song we wrote together, a hard-rock track called "Advance Warning". I also put down some guitar, and I'm really liking the way it's sounding. Probably also because I found an awesome compressor preset in Ableton that I'm having a lot of fun with, and which is sounding great on the bass. I know it's a little early to think of mixing but I had to see what it would sound like.

Anyways, that means that we're on our way, so you can expect more updates and stuff as we work our way through the material.

Cheers,

Pierre.

This Post is the First on this Blog

Well I guess this blog's virginity has to be taken at some point... So why not take it now. I'm just gonna explain a few things now and then we'll gradually get this rolling as the project moves forward.

First off; who are we and why did we create this? We are Christopher Drexler-Lemire and Pierre Massé, one half of The Final Year and colleagues at the University of Waterloo. We created Lupus Mentem because we found ourselves with the songwriting bug, both at university, and only the two of us - that meant a guitar, a bass, and vocals. No drums, nothing else. So rather than give up, we wrote and wrote and decided to embrace our drummerless situation and incorporate strong house and electronica influences into our alternative indie quasi-prog rock atmosphere. We still have to see what the final result will be like but initial tests are looking good. As far as we can tell at least.

Anyways, let's get to the good stuff - the plan. This summer, we will be recording a full-length album slated for release late summer/early fall. We've just barely begun work but as we get things rolling we will be keeping everyone and anyone who's following updated and entertained with blog posts such as this one (hopefully not as boring), videos, pics, and maybe even more... (Singles, acoustic versions? What say you?)

So follow us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or ReverbNation and get all the updates on this beast. We can assure a splendid time is guaranteed for all!

Cheers,

Lupus Mentem.
